Invited Talk and Demonstration on RoboCup Junior
The Science Teachers Association Singapore (STAS) once again organized its Annual STAS Day at the Singapore Science Centre on 28 March 2009. All science and mathematics teachers from primary and secondary Schools, centralised institutes and junior colleges were invited to the event. The theme for this year's annual STAS Day is "Exploring New Frontiers in Science".
A team led by Dr Zhou Changjiu, Chairman of RoboCup Singapore National Committee presented RoboCup 2010 - the opportunities and Challenges to the participants. During the presentation, Dr Zhou introduced RoboCup2010 and RoboCup Junior. The objective of introducing Robotics in Education, RoboCup Junior in particular, is to promote interest, learning and creativity in science and technology, through imaginative and enjoyable experience and support MOE's ICT masterplan.
RoboCup Junior is a project-oriented; team based educational initiative that supports local, regional and international robotics events for young students. It is designed to introduce RoboCup based curriculum for primary and secondary school students. The focus of RoboCup Junior is on education. RoboCup Junior provides a unique opportunity for participants with a variety of interests and strengths to work together as a team to achieve a common goal.
At the end of the presentation, a group of SP graduates gave a demonstration of Microsoft Robotics Studio, RoboCup Junior Dance Challenge. The demonstration was well received and attracted the attention of many participants. Some teachers have come forward to indicate their interest to take part in RoboCup Junior.
