RoboCup Junior Open House
The RoboCup Singapore National Committee organized the Robocup Junior Open House at the Advanced Robotics and Intelligent Control Centre (ARICC) in Singapore Polytechnic on 8 April 2009. About 100 teachers and students from primary and secondary schools joint the open house. Dr Zhou Changjiu, Chairman of RoboCup Singapore National Committee introduced RoboCup2010 and RoboCup Junior. He has also highlighted the opportunities and challenges for holistic education and the action plan to build up RoboCup Team Singapore. Mr Chong Whye Keet, Head of Robotics and Intelligent Systems from EDB had delivered a very enlightened speech to the audience on Education and robotics, and the opportunities for students to leverage upon robotics landscape in Singapore. The qualification procedure for Singapore RoboCup junior teams to participate in RoboCup2009 in Graz, 29 June - 5 July 2009 was also addressed by the Singapore RoboCup Junior National Rep. Staff from the Advanced Robotics and Intelligent Control Centre (ARICC) has presented their strong support towards the Robotics in Education. Staff and students from ARICC had also demonstrated various robotics activities, including Educational Humanoid Robot powered by Microsoft Robotics Studio, RoboCup Junior Soccer, Rescue and Dance Challenges, and Small Size Robot Soccer.
The activities were well received and attracted the attention of many teachers and students. Some teachers and students have come forward to indicate their interest to take part in RoboCup Junior.
