Associate Events

A series of associate events are scheduled to be hosted in conjunction with RoboCup 2010. These associate events are aimed at promoting the exciting field of robotics and artificial intelligence and generate greater awareness among general public on the state of art technologies and applications.

1. Robotics Experience

  • RoboCup Public Demos: This includes a series of demonstrations cum talks presented by RoboCup teams from various leagues on their research, novel applications, innovative solutions and cutting edge technologies. This event aimed towards offering interested teams an opportunity to share their knowledge with the rest of the RoboCup community and also general public which is crucial for accomplishing the RoboCup 2050 goal.
  • Robotics Hands-on Sessions: This includes facilitator led demonstrations and hands-on sessions wherein youth and general public understand the exciting field of robotics and artificial intelligence through building and programming robots for simple applications. This event would create greater awareness and acceptance among youth and general public. Greater outreach could help attract brightest minds which in turn would speed up the advancement in the field.
  • Special CoSpace Challenge: This event involves CoSpace robotics experience for children with special needs by writing strategies for their real and virtual robots (CoSpace) towards hunting treasures in a limited time. This event is aimed towards bringing the benefits of robot centred learning to children with special needs to promote integrating them into our community.

2. RoboCup and Industry Track

The RoboCup and Industry Track will be organised in conjunction with RoboCup 2010 Symposium. It will serve as a forum for dialogue between RoboCup community and industry aiming to bring the robotics and artificial intelligence solutions from RoboCup to industry.

3. Workshop on Robotics in Education

Singapore Polytechnic

This workshop will discuss the prospects of deploying robots as a teaching and learning tool. Experiences on what the students are getting out of educational robotics activities and evidence of robot's role in adding education will be shared with the RoboCup community.

4. RoboCup 2010 Exhibition

Levels 4 and 6
Date:
21-24 June 2010

This event involves exhibits from companies, research and academic institutions showcasing their products, and research capabilities to the RoboCup community. The exhibition is aimed towards bridging the gap and increasing interaction between the RoboCup community and the industry.

5. Student Commentators and Ambassadors Programme

RoboCup has always been a melting pot for world's youth with like-minded interests in robotics and artificial intelligence to converge, display their unique talents and pit against some of the world's best. With this in mind, youth volunteers have been engaged to be part of RoboCup 2010 in various capacities such as student commentators and student ambassadors to have a better opportunity for them to interact with participants and visitors from all over the world.

6. RoboCup 2010 Buddy Programme

Mooted to welcome the international participants by involving Singapore local schools to play host to our international friends. The idea is to give them a memorable experience and lasting impression of Singapore as the host country. As hosts, the Singapore schools are encouraged to engage overseas teams once the international junior teams have registered their interesting in the buddy programme. Host schools have the flexibility in the programme line-up for the international teams assigned to them. Where the competition schedule permits, they are encouraged to invite guests to visit their schools and interact with local students.
